Blue Microphones Snowflake Review

Blue Microphones LogoWhen it comes to Blue Microphones, you know you're getting a top-of-the-line microphone when you buy from this very big name in audio, Blue Microphones. I personally never owned any Blue microphone before, but I have to say, my first experience has been an excellent one! I heard about the Blue Snowball from some of my friends, so I wanted to try a Blue microphone myself; I went with the Blue Snowflake, and you know what, I couldn't be any happier. I'm not that audio-techy, but I can understand some of the simple terms audio companies use to list their specs of the device. I knew the Blue Snowflake would fit me well for my needs. I wanted a great microphone that would have a comparable audio quality to their Snowball, but while being lightweight and very mobile; the Snowflake was my answer after looking around.

Blue has really outdone them self with the Snowflake. When you think of a mobile microphone, typically you think of a cheap plastic microphone that has a really bad sound quality. I really took a shot to see how the Snowflake would perform to its competitors. The Snowflake has met all of my expectations and more!Blue Snowflake

The Snowflake offers a wonderful aluminum body with a 360 degree rotating microphone. With the USB digital output and the condenser built inside this tiny microphone; it really packs a punch for how small it is. The audio is crystal clear compared to a variety of the other mobile microphones out there. There's no feedback once so ever, and it really does a great job at cancelling out those noises you don't want to hear. There's none of the buzz you typically here with cheaper microphones. The Snowflake is not one of those microphones; it's even better. I know this might be unbelievable to say, but it's not that far away from studio quality. It really does provide a nice and crisp sound for such a small device.

There's only one problem with the microphone; it's a bit "top heavy". If you move the microphone itself too far out, the Snowflake will tip over because the weight isn't equally balanced. But Blue Microphones didn't design the Snowflake to be a desktop microphone, instead, the designed it to be a nice easy way to carry a microphone around with you and simply attach it to the top of your laptop. I simply solved this issue by putting some heavy and small materials in the wire compartment.

When you want to simply pack the Snowflake, the microphone will simply tilt backwards to store itself in the compartment below. You may think to yourself, well where do you put the wire then? Blue has a solution to this question too. You can simply store the wire in the white plastic tray that's used as the base of the microphone. It really turns into something you can carry around just about anywhere.

And for all of you audio geeks, the Snowflake uses a cardioid polar pattern (the wiring around the microphone) which is typically used for vocals, recordings, and acoustics. The sample rate of this microphone is 44.1kHz and the word rate is 16 bit. The frequency response is 35Hz - 20kHz. Which for all you who don't get this, it basically means the Snowflake will pick up your voice nice and clearly.

I really love the Blue Snowflake, and I cannot wait to try out some of their other products like their Snowball, which is a desktop USB microphone like the Snowflake, but even better!
